From Resentment to Contentment
Contentment
Serenity is a sense of emotional integrity and resilience. Sobriety is the first step on the journey. Faith, letting go of resentments, improving our character, making amends, regularly taking personal inventory, and helping others, leads to contentment.
Therefore, while a person may be sober and not acting out with alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, technology, food, or shopping, until they can regulate their emotions when life throws them a curveball, they are like dry drunks. The term “dry drunk” refers to a person who is no longer drinking, but is still angry, resentful, anxious, and miserable as if he were still acting out. That state of mind is not contentment.
