When You Can't Stop, and Can't Tell Anyone

When You Can't Stop, and Can't Tell Anyone

You've tried to quit on your own more times than you can count. You mean it every time. And every time, you end up back in the same place, feeling more ashamed and more alone than before.

Maybe it's pornography that's quietly taken over more of your life than you'd admit. Maybe it's behavior that goes against everything you believe about yourself. Maybe you're not even sure what to call it, only that it has a grip on you and willpower hasn't been enough to break it. And the worst part isn't the behavior. It's the secrecy, the double life, the fear that if anyone really knew, you'd lose everything.

You are not a bad person with no self-control. You're a person carrying a wound, a hole in your soul,  that's been running the show. And it can be treated.

You Don't Have to White-Knuckle This Anymore

I'm Allan J. Katz, a licensed counselor and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). For over a decade  I've helped men break free from compulsive sexual behavior, porn addiction, and the shame that keeps it circling again and again.  I'm one of the few CSATs in Tennessee, and the only one in Memphis who takes insurance. I’ve been there and  heard every version of this story, and I don't flinch, and I won't judge you. What I will do is help you understand what's actually driving this, and give you a real way out.

How We Break the Cycle

We tell the truth, safely.

A confidential, judgment-free space where you can finally stop hiding. The secrecy ends here, and that's where recovery starts.

We treat the root, not the symptom.

Compulsive behavior is almost always covering pain, stress, or trauma. We go after the hole in your soul that’s underneath so the behavior loses its grip.

We build accountability that holds.

You get a concrete plan and real accountability, because insight alone doesn't keep anyone sober. You get what you practice.

Understanding the Trauma Underneath

For most men, compulsive sexual behavior isn't really about sex. It's about escape, control and power.. Somewhere along the way, porn or acting out became the way to numb stress, loneliness, or pain.  you may not even connect to it, sometimes reaching all the way back to childhood. Until that underlying wound is addressed, sobriety stays fragile, because the pain it was medicating is still there. This is why willpower fails and why treating the trauma changes everything: when the root heals, the behavior stops being something you have to fight every single day.

The Approaches I Use

Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all. I draw on proven, trauma-informed approaches and match them to what you actually need:

Brainspotting and Harmonic Brain Healing.

A powerful method for reaching and releasing the trauma stored beneath conscious awareness, where talk therapy alone can't go.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Practical skills for riding out urges, regulating hard emotions, and staying steady when everything in you wants to escape.

Experiential Therapy.

Active, doing-not-just-talking work that helps you practice honesty, accountability, and change in real time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I really a sex addict, or is this just a bad habit?

You don't need to settle that label before reaching out. If your behavior feels out of your control, conflicts with your values, or you've tried to stop and can't, that's reason enough to get help. A proper assessment can give you a clear, honest answer.

Is this confidential? I have a lot to lose.

Completely. Everything you share is confidential and handled to professional ethical and legal standards. Discretion is part of the work, especially for men with careers and families on the line.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. I'm the only CSAT in Memphis who accepts insurance and one of the few in Tennessee. We'll sort out the details during your consultation.

Can we meet online?

Yes. In-person in Memphis, and secure telehealth across Tennessee and New Jersey.
