How Isolation Fuels Addiction

I never thought about loneliness as a trigger for addiction.

Then I heard this TED talk yesterday from Rachel Wurzman entitled, "How isolation fuels opioid addiction."

Then it all began to make sense.

Isolation breeds loneliness and loneliness affects connection, intimacy and attachment negatively. People can be lonely in a crowd of people and loneliness with isolation causes people to act out in their addictive "drug of choice."

Especially with process addictions like food & sex addiction; when we're hungry, angry, lonely or tired, we are more susceptible to want to medicate.

And the remedy is having someone in a similar situation to talk to, to stop isolating and joining the universe in sharing thoughts, beliefs and opinions. Helping others find their way, in business and in life.
